Here’s the
transcript if you’d like to read along:
Hi, everybody! My name’s Akshay, and I’m the C.E.O. here at The
Optima Kart. Welcome to Two Minute Fridays, where we give two minutes of
ecommerce advice to bolster your online success.
Whether you’re brand new to Facebook or you’ve been on it for
years, there are a lot of different truths and untruths out there about this
platform. So pay close attention, because today I’ve got five really stupid
Facebook marketing myths that need to take a hike.
Myth #1, and this can be debated inside or outside of the parameters of
Facebook, that size matters. In other words, if you’re expecting your Like
count to be the ultimate end-all, be-all of your Facebook marketing success,
you’re headed in the wrong direction. Instead, you need to focus on engagement.
It’s much better for you to have a community of a hundred or even a thousand
that is always interested in what you have to say, as opposed to a community of
one million that couldn’t care less.
Myth #2: If you post it, they will come. Believe it or not, every time
you post to your business Facebook page, not all of your fans are actually
seeing it. In fact, it can be anywhere from only 5% to 15% of your fan base
that will catch your posts. So, in other words, you need to make sure that
you’re always building engagement. That way, more people are more likely to see
what you have to say.
Stupid myth #3: Facebook marketing is free. Well, guess what, my friends?
Facebook marketing is not free. Even if you choose not to take advantage of any
paid opportunities, it’s always going to take time and resources to invest into
your Facebook page as adequately as possible. So if that’s the only reason
you’re getting on Facebook, because you think it’s free marketing, think again
and start over.
Myth #4: Facebook will directly impact my sales. Wrong. While
Facebook marketing might be helpful to driving some sales and building brand
awareness and brand loyalty and engagement with your overall ecommerce site,
it’s not going to necessarily help you directly drive sales. At the end of the
day, people typically can’t buy your products off of Facebook, so you want to push
them back to your website or even into your retail store to actually make the
purchase.
Myth #5: And last, but not least on our list, my business must be on
Facebook. Now, I’m biased because I think Facebook is fantastic. But if you’re
not willing to put in the time or the effort to really have a great looking
Facebook page, and you just start it for no reason and never look at it again,
you’re better off not being on there in the first place. So if you’re going to
get onto Facebook, make sure that you’re actually going to go for it.
When you’re going about your Facebook marketing, be sure to kick
these myths to the curb. You can do a lot better than that. Have any questions?
Then leave me a comment in the box below, and I’ll get right back to you. From
me to you, happy selling!
